Honeymoon Cottage Fig Tree Cottage is a charming 300 year-old stone cottage set in the quiet village of Kaya, 15 minutes inland of Oludeniz.  It is a romantic gem of a hideaway for honeymooners with appealing simplicity and has been lovingly converted over the years by John, poet, writer, cartographer and former single-handed sailor and his wife Bea, who painted the furniture so enchantingly that the kitchen resembles a scene from a Van Gogh painting.  'Brides' magazine described the Cottage as one of the most romantic in the world.

The cottage is fully self-contained, split level with a cosy bedroom/lounge (complete with original fireplace!), and two steps leading down to the open plan kitchen/dining room. The interior is decorated in a selection of colourful Turkish rugs, hand-painted artefacts and vases of wildflowers - an oasis of privacy which boasts two shaded terraces, complete with barbeque and outdoor seating area.  A perfect place for a quiet glass of wine or two in the cool of the evening.

John and Bea live in another stone cottage nearby along with numerous cats and dogs. John, being a professional walk leader, as well as a map-maker, is a mine of information about the splendid walking and biking opportunities in the valley. Spring is especially wonderful for walks as the countryside turns into a vividly coloured patchwork of anemones, orchids, cyclamen and poppies. Later in the year herbs - thyme, oregano and sage - scent the air and you can pluck figs and pomegranates from the trees. Walking or cycling past fields of tomatoes, peppers, aubergines and melons you will also spot the mastic trees with which the old inhabitants of Kaya used to make retsina, or the Lycian sarcophagi which testify to a more ancient civilization.
Fig Tree Cottage has the advantage of having three restaurants in walking distance and one or two restaurants with a swimming pool within a 2km bike ride.

The ghost town of Kaya is approx 1km away. It is the venue for the drama in Louis de Bernieres' masterpiece 'Birds Without Wings'. The cottage has been recommended in The Sunday Times and The Telegraph. There are local beaches, restaurants ranging from simple to sophisticated, and basic supplies in the nearby village. There is no disco or 'Red Lion'!
Fethiye town is a short drive away and there are beaches 6km away and which can be reached by public transport. The village is steeped in history and your hosts are a mine of information.
The cottage is totally private, is entirely detached from its neighbours, and the ideal resting place for stressed out professionals [or honeymooners].
